G7 shies away from Ukraine funding, leaving a $52B budget hole after EU push
At the G7 summit, leaders are expected to acknowledge Ukraine’s battlefield gains but avoid large new financial pledges. The EU has arranged a 90 billion euro loan to cover roughly two-thirds of Ukraine’s needs through 2027, leaving about $52 billion to be financed by others. Kyiv officials say the remaining gap persists, with discussions focused on energy infrastructure and air defenses rather than concrete funding commitments, and Canada remaining non-committal.
