American’s 777-300ER Retrofit Expands Biz Class, Phases Out First

American Airlines is retrofitting its 20 Boeing 777-300ERs under the Olympus program, removing first class and introducing an all-new two-cabin business-class layout (Flagship Suite and Flagship Suite Preferred) plus refreshed premium economy and economy. The refit increases total seats from 304 to 330 (70 in business, 44 premium economy, 216 economy) by trading eight former first-class seats for 18 extra business-class seats and 16 premium-economy seats. The first redesigned 777-300ER entered service on Sept. 2, 2026 (N718AN) with JFK–Buenos Aires, and routes like DFW–London follow; first-class on these jets will no longer be sold starting Nov. 19, 2026, with the full fleet reconfiguration expected by end-2027 (potentially early-2028) on routes including EZE, LHR, GRU, SYD, and HND.
