"Cauleen Smith's Ode to LA: A Visual Love Letter"

Artist and filmmaker Cauleen Smith's latest project, "The Wanda Coleman Songbook," is an immersive video installation at 52 Walker gallery in TriBeCa, paying homage to Los Angeles through sight, sound, and scent, while honoring poet Wanda Coleman. The multi-sensory experience includes a video, an album of specially commissioned songs, and a bespoke scent, all inspired by the city. Smith's project explores her conflicted love for Los Angeles, addressing the city's seductions and precarity, particularly for the declining Black community, while celebrating its disconcerting beauty.
