"Controversial Arrests: CMPD Officer Suspended and Body Cam Video Released"

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer, Vincent Pistone, has been suspended for 40 hours and will undergo additional training after an internal investigation found that 14 of the 17 strikes he delivered to a woman, Christina Pierre, during an arrest were not justified. The investigation stemmed from a controversial arrest last month, and body-worn camera footage released by CMPD shows officers detaining Pierre and another individual without providing a reason. The charges against Pierre and the man were dropped by the district attorney, and witnesses seen on the footage criticized the officers' actions as excessive.

Controversial Charlotte Arrest: Officer's Punches Under Scrutiny

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are defending an officer's punches during an arrest after body-camera and witness cellphone videos were released. The videos show the officer attempting to detain two individuals, who repeatedly ask why they are being detained. One of the individuals swings at the officer's head, prompting the officer to punch back and yell for compliance. The officer then kicks the individual's leg and punches her in the back of the leg. Charges against both individuals have been dropped by the district attorney. The police department maintains that the officer's actions were in line with use of force laws and that the body-camera footage provides a more complete picture of the incident.
