OpenAI has introduced a new feature that allows users to turn off their chat history when using its ChatGPT chatbot. The company won't save previous conversations or use them to train its AI models when this setting is turned off. However, new conversations will still be stored for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse. Users can also export their data and download a file containing their information collected by ChatGPT. OpenAI is also introducing a way to preserve chat history while opting out of its use as training data for subscribers of its new ChatGPT Business plan.
A federal judge in the ongoing trial between Google and Epic Games has suggested that Google should face sanctions for its practice of deleting employee conversations after a certain period of time. Google has left the decision to keep chat history up to employees, resulting in the judge stating that Google has “adopted a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy for keeping messages, at the expense of its preservation duties.” The judge has yet to decide what sanctions Google should face, but has ordered Google to cover the attorney fees for Epic as regards this particular issue.
