Philadelphia Designer Wins $300k NASA Prize for Modular Mars Food System
Chinyere Ukeje, a 25-year-old computer scientist from Philadelphia, won the top $300,000 prize in NASA’s Deep Space Food Challenge: Mars to Table. Her winning concept, the Adaptive Nourishment Infrastructure (ANI), proposes a modular food system capable of sustaining a 15-person crew for 500 Martian sols. The system prioritizes resilience against power and water shortages, aiming to replace pre-packaged meals with fresh, daily-cooked food for future crewed missions to Mars.
