Kreider Headlines Canadiens’ One-Year, Cap-Savvy Pickup
Veteran forward Chris Kreider signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens worth $2.15 million, with performance bonuses potentially pushing the total to $5.4 million. The move reunites him with Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis and GM Jeff Gorton, and fills a second-line need opposite Ivan Demidov while offering cap flexibility. Kreider is expected to attack with speed and forechecking on the left wing, likely alongside Demidov and either Alex Newhook or Oliver Kapanen, with limited anticipated power-play usage. The signing comes amid a reshaping of Montreal’s forward group, and Hall of Fame-bound goaltender Carey Price will be honored in a Nov. 10 pre-game ceremony at the Bell Centre.
