Shesterkin Finally Lands NHL Goalie Goal in Rangers' 5-1 Home Opener Win
Igor Shesterkin scored the first goal in New York Rangers franchise history, becoming the 18th goaltender in NHL history to do so, during a 5-1 victory over Tampa Bay at Madison Square Garden. The Russian netminder, who had attempted similar shots numerous times previously, finally succeeded with 2:34 remaining in the third period. He also recorded 24 saves, earning first star honors, while the win marked a significant turnaround for the Rangers' home ice performance after a difficult previous season.
