Voyager Probes Carry Chuck Berry's 'Johnny B. Goode' Into Interstellar Space
NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 probes, launched in 1977, are currently traveling through interstellar space carrying gold-plated phonograph records. These records include Chuck Berry's 'Johnny B. Goode' as a representation of Earth's rock and roll culture. The probes have exited the heliosphere and are approximately one light-day away from Earth, though they will take tens of thousands of years to reach other star systems. The selection was part of a broader effort to showcase diverse global music, despite some committee members questioning the inclusion of rock and roll.
