The Kirby Air Riders team considered reviving the original City Trial map from the GameCube, but Masahiro Sakurai said it would require tremendous cost and balancing work for up to 16 players, so they couldn’t pull it off and instead pursued a new map design.
Kirby Air Riders, a racing game with simple controls and deep gameplay mechanics, was previewed at Gamescom. It features a roster of characters, including Kirby and others, with a focus on the City Trial mode that supports up to 16 players online. The game offers strategic depth through vehicle customization, secret areas, and various mini-games, suggesting it may have more complexity and replayability than initially apparent. The game is set to release on November 20.
