Firaxis's Civilization VII update, Test of Time, lets you guide any civ beyond its apex (Time-Tested) with a new civics tree and syncretism mechanics, introduces Triumphs to replace Legacy Paths, and revamps Victories with individual scoring.
Firaxis announces the Test of Time patch for Civilization 7, described as the game’s most fundamentally game-changing update since launch. The patch lets players stay with a single civilization through an entire match (with optional changes during Age Transitions) and introduces Syncretism and Aff irmation mechanics to mix or deepen a civ’s identity. It also reworks Victories, adds a Triumph system, and brings a new map and narrative events as part of a free May 19 update, with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noting the game was a “bridge too far” but remains profitable and capable of improvements.
Firaxis is reworking Civilization 7 to allow players to choose a single civilization throughout the game, addressing player feedback on the divisive Age system. The upcoming update 1.3.0 introduces naval enhancements, new resources, and strategic features, alongside a community testing initiative for the new continuous civilization gameplay option. The Tides of Power DLC will add new leaders and civilizations, with further updates planned.
2K has confirmed a staff reduction at Firaxis, affecting dozens of employees as part of a restructuring to enhance adaptability, collaboration, and creativity, despite strong financial performance by parent company Take-Two Interactive.
