TIFF 2026 Unveils Gala and Special Presentations Lineup

TIFF's 51st edition (Sept 10–20, 2026) announced its Gala Presentations and Special Presentations lineups, headlined by Closing Night Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend. The Galas feature a global slate with world and North American premieres from acclaimed international directors, including names such as Almodóvar, Boyle, Kore-eda, Mungiu, Rock, and Zvyagintsev, among others, and the lineup spans nearly 30 countries. The Special Presentations program adds additional high-profile titles from around the world. The inaugural TIFF Market runs Sept 10–16, and TIFF Takeover events are planned for July and August to reveal further titles and programming.

'Phantom of the Opera' bids farewell after 35 years on Broadway.

The Phantom of the Opera, the longest-running show in Broadway history, is closing after more than 35 years and almost 14,000 performances. The musical has grossed over $1.3 billion and employed an estimated 6,500 people, including over 400 actors. Despite its success, producer Cameron Mackintosh says the show was losing money even before the pandemic. The final performance will be on Sunday, April 16, and there are plans for surprises at the final curtain call. For the other 124 people employed by The Phantom of the Opera, it's time to find a new gig.
