NFL lets designated sideline staff trigger replay reviews starting 2026
The NFL will allow a head coach to designate a sideline staffer to initiate replay challenges starting in the 2026 season, with the designee chosen before kickoff; the coach remains heavily involved, and the change—not voted at the owners’ meeting—is codified in Rule 15.1(a). Last year saw 151 challenges, and the first game to test the new rule could be Seahawks vs. Patriots on Sept. 9, 2026.
