"White House Directs NASA to Establish Lunar Time Standard"
The White House has directed NASA to establish a standard time for the Moon and other planets, potentially called Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC), by the end of 2026. Due to the Moon's reduced gravity, a clock gains about 56 microseconds compared to 24 hours on Earth. NASA's Artemis program aims to land astronauts near the Moon's South Pole in 2026 and install a communications network and a space station, the Lunar Gateway, near the Moon by 2028.
