Cost spirals drive NASA to cancel Artemis upgrades, IG says
NASA canceled four Artemis-era programs after inspector general findings that combined contract values rose from about $2.8B to $5.9B and delivery dates extended by up to seven years; the Universal Stage Adapter alone was projected to cost about $497M, not be ready until 2030 (roughly 13 years), prompting NASA to pivot toward a lunar-surface base and modernize acquisition in line with Artemis objectives.
