Fossil trackway in North Dakota reveals T. rex walked at a brisk human pace
Researchers have identified the first known trackway of an adult Tyrannosaurus rex, discovered in North Dakota’s Hell Creek Formation. The four-to-five footprints, dating to 66.5 million years ago, indicate the dinosaur walked at approximately 1.6 meters per second, comparable to a brisk human pace. Published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, the find provides rare behavioral data on T. rex movement, with three prints set for transport to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
