NASA says 23 U.S. states will not see the Aug. 12 total solar eclipse; only a partial eclipse will be visible in parts of the Northeast, Midwest and Alaska, while the path of totality passes through Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, Spain and Portugal. The event starts around 11:34 a.m. ET and peaks near 1:46 p.m. ET, with viewing dependent on weather and location.
The 2024 solar eclipse will darken the sky for millions of Americans on April 8, with the exact time varying by state and time zone. The eclipse will begin in Mexico at 11:07 a.m. PDT and end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. EDT. Even if not in the path of totality, some areas will still see a percentage of the eclipse. A database by USA TODAY allows people to search for the eclipse time, duration, peak, and percentage in their area. The eclipse's path of totality, approximately 115 miles wide, will cross through 13 states in the U.S. before ending in Maine and eventually entering Canada.
