South Africa Walking-Safari Guide Killed by Charging Elephant
Gary Freeman, a longtime walking-safari guide at Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in Limpopo, South Africa, was fatally attacked when a charging elephant struck him during a walking safari on April 9. SAPS said there’s no evidence the firearm he carried was used. Tributes from the reserve and guests describe Freeman as a beloved, integral part of the community, with social posts recalling his reputed belief that he would rather be killed by an elephant than shoot one.
