ERCOT Resolves Energy Emergency, Texas Grid Returns to Normal Operations

Texas' power grid returned to "normal conditions" after entering an Energy Emergency Alert 2 due to high temperatures, high demand, low wind, and declining solar power generation. The state came dangerously close to demand surpassing supply, with a difference of fewer than 2,000 megawatts. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) implemented emergency operations to access additional power sources and protect the reliability of the electric system. Controlled power outages were not requested at the time, but could have become necessary if demand wasn't lowered or additional supply couldn't be added.
