Fervo Energy’s Utah Geothermal Plant Nears Commercial Launch Amid Data Center Power Crunch
Fervo Energy is set to connect its Cape Station enhanced geothermal project in Utah to the grid next month, marking the first commercial operation of its kind in the US. The company aims to leverage oil-and-gas drilling techniques to generate emissions-free baseload power for data centers, with total contracted power reaching 1 GW following a new deal with Google. Despite a 57% stock decline since its May IPO, Fervo is targeting cost reductions to $3,000 per kW to compete with other energy sources.
