NASA's Snake Robot to Explore Saturn's Moon for Signs of Life
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is testing a snake-like robot called the Exobiology Extant Life Surveyor (EELS) system, designed to maneuver through solid and liquid formations while collecting samples. The space agency hopes to deploy the robot to reach the surface of Enceladus, one of Saturn's 83 moons, and examine its icy features. The EELS team has taken into account the hostile conditions of Enceladus while designing the craft that can survive in the extreme environment. If successful, the mission could lead to deeper exploration of celestial bodies that were once considered unattainable.
