Michigan family massacre: father kills wife and six children, torches home before suicide
Authorities say Kristopher Karolkiewicz shot his wife Amanda and their six children (ages 5–15) in Grand Haven Township, Michigan, then started a fire in multiple parts of the home and died by suicide; autopsies ruled the deaths homicides and investigators describe it as a murder–suicide in a case classified as a family annihilation. The blaze preceded responders’ discovery of the bodies, and the incident is part of 2026’s rising count of mass killings in the U.S., fueling debate over gun violence and prevention. No outside suspect was sought and the investigation continues. The dogs and at least one cat also died in the fire; Karolkiewicz had worked for the American Heart Association until July 2023.
