NHS begins wide rollout of MS drug that improves walking
England’s NHS is rolling out fampridine, a twice-daily drug designed to improve walking in people with multiple sclerosis. It is the first MS treatment aimed at walking difficulties, with about 5,000 people expected to be eligible in the first year. Patients will try the drug for 2–4 weeks; those who show improvement can continue long-term. Trials show walking speed improves in around 43% of patients, helping mobility for those with EDSS scores from 4 to 7 and potentially enabling more independence. The MS Society welcomed the move and urged strong MS services to ensure broad access.
