Ford Bets Big on a $30K Fathom: Aiming for 100,000 EVs in Year One
Ford is targeting to sell 100,000 units of its upcoming Fathom EV in year one, with a starting price around $30,000 and a redesigned manufacturing process to cut costs. Separately, Uber plans to lay off about 3,300 employees in a move to streamline its structure amid competition from robotaxi services. Ford will also pay $2.3 million and implement anti-discrimination training after an EEOC investigation at its Buffalo stamping plant. Meanwhile, VW faces pressure to consider a longer work week to boost competitiveness, a debate that unions and analysts argue won’t easily fix its costs.
