Appeals Court Clears Path for Tariff Refunds After Supreme Court Ruling

A federal appeals court declined to delay the mandate to begin processing tariff refunds after the Supreme Court ruled that IEEPA did not authorize Trump’s tariffs, clearing the way for the Court of International Trade to craft relief for small businesses such as FedEx, Revlon and Costco; the administration had urged a 90‑day pause, but the court rejected it, and refunds are set to proceed under the ruling.

"Supreme Court Refuses to Review Apple's $503M Patent Victory in VirnetX Lawsuit"

After a decade-long legal battle, the Supreme Court has sided with Apple by denying a bid from VirnetX to revive a $503 million patent case. This decision ends the prolonged dispute over FaceTime, VPN, and iMessage patents, with the Federal Circuit ruling in favor of Apple. President Biden's representatives from the Patent Office also supported Apple, urging the justices to reject the case, while VirnetX complained about the former patent office interim director's decisions.

Calls for 95-Year-Old Federal Judge to Step Down Over Mental Fitness Concerns

A special federal appeals court has stated that Judge Pauline Newman, who has been on the Federal Circuit appellate court since the 1980s, may no longer be mentally fit for the job. Newman claimed in a lawsuit filed earlier this month that her fellow judges are trying to push her off the bench. However, the court said IT and human-resources staff, as well as people in the judge's own chambers, have claimed she has become "paranoid" and "agitated" and made nonsense claims about her phone being "bugged" and her email being "hacked."

Federal Judge Newman's Competency Challenged Amid 'Paranoid' Incidents

The US Federal Circuit has ordered Judge Pauline Newman to release her medical records to investigate an alleged mental decline that is suspected to be affecting her work. The order comes after multiple court staff members reported concerns that Newman cannot remember how to perform simple tasks and has appeared "paranoid." Newman had sued her colleagues in federal district court last week, alleging she's been unfairly targeted over her health and performance on the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The Federal Circuit panel ordered that Newman be evaluated by a neurologist and neuropsychologist and that she respond to the committee's demand for an examination by next week.
