Iceland Votes No to Restarting EU Talks
Voters rejected a proposal to renew EU accession negotiations by 52.5% to 47.5% in a nonbinding referendum. The result would have allowed the government to restart talks, but any final membership would require another vote. It’s unlikely negotiations will resume during the current term, and Iceland remains outside the EU, continuing its EEA and Schengen ties amid debates over fishing sovereignty and Arctic security.
