Ford's Fathom: A $28K Pivot from the F-150 Lightning
Ford is launching the Fathom, a new electric pickup priced at $28,350, as a strategic pivot from the discontinued F-150 Lightning. Unlike the previous model, the Fathom is built on a new Universal EV Platform using aluminum unicastings and lithium iron phosphate batteries to reduce costs. While the F-150 Lightning failed due to high production costs and shifting market conditions, the Fathom aims for mass-market appeal with a lower price point and a 2027 launch date.
