Framework says a small percentage of BIOS updates for the Ryzen 7040-based Framework Laptop 13 render boards non-bootable. It’s investigating the root cause, will replace some out-of-warranty AMD mainboards where a stable BIOS caused the failure, and is introducing Crisis Recovery Mode to recover failed updates.
The Framework Laptop 13 has been upgraded with 13th-gen Intel processors, a matt screen coating, louder speakers, and a higher-capacity battery. The modular design with swappable ports remains a standout feature, and the laptop is repairable and upgradeable. The laptop is available as a pre-built machine or in a DIY edition, with prices starting at £1,049 ($1,049). While battery life is still not the best, the Framework Laptop 13 is an excellent, adaptable, and upgradable marvel suitable for more than just PC enthusiasts.
Framework has announced that its highly modular Laptop 13 can now be equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen 7040U "Phoenix" APUs featuring a Zen 4 CPU and an RDNA 3 Radeon 760M/780M iGPU with 8/12 CUs. Consumers can choose between a Ryzen 5 7640U and a Ryzen 7 7840U APU, and can either upgrade their existing Framework Laptop 13 or order a new one with the Ryzen 7040U chips. The DIY kit starts at $849, while an already configured unit with a Ryzen 5 7640U, 8 GB of DDR5 memory, and 256 GB of storage is available for pre-order at $1,049.
