Publix expands berry recall amid E. coli outbreak tied to GreenWise blueberries

Publix is expanding a recall of frozen berries sold in eight states, including South Carolina, after an FDA/CDC investigation linked E. coli O145 to GreenWise Organic Blueberries from Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. The recall now covers all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries and adds three more package configurations (10 oz and 48 oz) with specific UPCs (41415-06453, 41415-12053, 41415-06753, 41415-12153). Symptoms of hepatitis A can last up to two months and include fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, and jaundice. Consumers are urged to check their freezers for the recalled product and either discard it or return it to the store for a refund.

The Scenic Fruit Company has issued a nationwide recall for some of its frozen fruit products sold at Costco, Trader Joe's, and other stores due to possible hepatitis A contamination. The recall includes frozen organic strawberries and a tropical blend sold under various brand names. While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA is urging consumers to return the products for a refund out of an abundance of caution. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that can be contracted from contaminated food and can lead to severe illness and liver failure.
