Houthis threaten global oil flow as Saudi vows to safeguard shipping
Saudi Arabia condemned the Houthis’ vow to impose a maritime blockade on its shipping via the Bab al-Mandeb chokepoint and said it would take all necessary measures to protect vessels, as the Red Sea route comes under threat amid the broader Iran–US-Israel conflict. If enacted, the blockade could disrupt up to 25% of the world’s oil and gas supplies, risking higher prices and inflation for major buyers such as China, India, and Europe and complicating global energy markets.
