Google has raised prices across its hardware lineup: the Google TV Streamer jumps to $150 (from $100), and all current Nest cameras and doorbells see price bumps of $20–$50 (for example, Nest Cam Battery and Nest Doorbells now $200, Nest Cam Outdoor $200, Nest Cam Indoor $130). The changes took effect August 31, with some retailers still listing older stock.
The Google TV Streamer is now $149.99 on the Google Store (Porcelain and Hazel), up from $99.99 with no hardware changes; Google cites RAM and chip shortages tied to AI as the reason. Best Buy has matched the higher price; Amazon still lists it at $99 for now, so potential buyers may want to purchase soon before price-matching occurs.
Google has raised prices on its Google TV Streamer (up 50% to $149.99) and on Nest devices (Doorbell and Cam models up by $20–$50), citing higher memory and component costs; the changes are effective August 31 and follow similar hikes from Amazon and Apple.
Google has quietly raised the Google TV Streamer price by 50% to $150, up from $100, with no official explanation. The device remains available from Google and retailers like Best Buy, while Amazon still lists it at $100 at the time of writing; analysts note RAM supply pressures could be a possible factor behind the hike.
Google now lets you pair two Google Home Speakers with a Google TV Streamer to add surround-sound-like audio to your TV with minimal setup. The guide walks you through connecting via Quick Settings (Home > Quick Settings > Audio output > Connect another device; select Google speakers; Next) so both speakers appear in Remotes & Accessories and are used automatically when the TV is on. While this provides stereo and virtual surround, it's not true multi-channel surround since there’s no dedicated subwoofer. It's a space-saving, wires-free option and also covers using a single speaker under the TV, pairing older Nest/Home devices via Bluetooth, and a latency fix in Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Google speakers > Audio video sync. Overall, it's a simple upgrade for better TV audio with caveats on bass and latency.
Android Authority’s Joe Maring spends a month with Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro (2026) and concludes it’s a standout value at $60 that can rival the Google TV Streamer: it delivers Dolby Vision/Atmos, 32GB storage, a feature-packed remote with Find My Remote, and a USB-A port, plus solid performance on a Wi‑Fi 6 box. Still, it’s not perfect: 100Mbps Ethernet, only 3GB RAM, and only modest upgrades over the 2024 model. For many buyers the Onn 4K Pro (2026) offers better value than the $100 Google TV Streamer, though power users may still prefer Google’s box for the faster Ethernet, more RAM, and quicker updates.
Google's Home Speaker debuts as the centerpiece of a Gemini-powered smart-home push, offering exclusive software features and a stereo-pair setup with the Google TV Streamer for spatial audio, but it isn’t a direct Nest Audio replacement, leaving Nest Audio owners with fewer upgrade paths and potential sound-quality tradeoffs.
Google's first major 2026 OTA for the Google TV Streamer upgrades the device to the April 2026 patch, adds Thread 1.4 support, and introduces a new Share Thread network credentials feature that shows a secure local QR code (with a fallback text code) on screen to simplify joining a Thread mesh and improve IoT reliability.
