Alaska Airlines is increasing seat capacity at Seattle’s Paine Field by 50% through 2027. The expansion includes a new twice-daily nonstop to San Jose, California, starting April 14, 2027, operated by Horizon Air. The airline will also add a second daily flight to Los Angeles and Portland, using larger Boeing 737s for the Los Angeles route. No physical construction is required for these changes.
The wife of a former Alaska Airlines pilot, Joseph Emerson, expressed shock and disbelief after he was arrested for allegedly attempting to cut the engines of a Horizon Air flight while riding in the cockpit jump seat. Emerson's defense attorney stated that there was no intention to harm himself or others and that he wanted to thank the flight crew for their actions. Emerson has pleaded not guilty to state charges of attempted murder and faces federal charges of interfering with a flight crew. The incident has raised concerns about the mental health and fitness of individuals in the cockpit.
