IBM climbs on 2Q miss as growth outlook tightens and profit warning looms
IBM reported Q2 adjusted EPS of $2.93 on $17.2B revenue (miss vs $3.01 and $17.9B expected), and cut its full-year constant-currency revenue growth guidance to 4%-5% (midpoint 4.5%), below prior >5% target. The company still expects about $1B in higher free cash flow YoY. Software revenue rose 5% (Hybrid Cloud/Red Hat +11%, Data +19%); Consulting was flat, Infrastructure fell 7% as IBM Z declined, offset by a 37% rise in Distributed Infrastructure. Six-month free cash flow was $4.8B. Despite the miss, IBM shares rose roughly 3% after a prior profit warning, with management sticking to margin expansion and growth opportunities.
