Dallas-based IIT Kanpur alum faces two-year job drought, weighs return to India

Gautam Dev, a 61-year-old IIT Kanpur alumnus and former software engineer in Dallas, has been unable to secure full-time employment for nearly two years after quitting his job in September 2024. Despite over two decades of IT experience, Dev faces barriers from age bias, long employment gaps, and the shift toward AI roles. He has resorted to gig work, drained his savings, and raised over $9,000 via GoFundMe to cover bills.
