
Oxalate drives systemic inflammation and heart injury in kidney disease
A study in Cardiovascular Research found that oxalate accumulation in CKD activates systemic IL-17A–driven inflammation, causing kidney damage and heart dysfunction in mice; blocking IL-17A improved kidney function and reduced inflammation and fibrosis, highlighting an oxalate–IL-17A axis as a potential therapeutic target and a way to identify high-risk CKD patients.
