Mahmood to unveil revised settlement rules after Labour backlash
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is set to announce final changes to indefinite leave to remain (ILR) rules in the House of Commons. After facing internal opposition, the government is expected to revise its original plan to extend the settlement wait from five to 10 years, potentially exempting care workers from a 15-year requirement. The decision follows a consultation with 200,000 responses and comes amid falling net migration figures.
