Final Countdown: California Inflation Relief Funds Must Be Claimed by Thursday

California residents have until Thursday, April 30, 2026 at midnight to claim about $600 million in unclaimed inflation relief funds. If you have a Middle Class Tax Refund debit card, you must activate it and move all funds off the card by the deadline; any remaining money will be reclaimed by the state and returned to the general fund, not Unclaimed Property. To transfer funds, activate at mctrpayment.com or via the Money Network app and use ACH to send money to your bank; funds typically arrive within a few days. If you received a check instead of a card or direct deposit, you must cash or deposit it before the expiration date on the check; if the check is lost or expired, the funds are gone. Some people never received a card; there are no new payments planned as of now, and the earlier class action suit was dismissed.

Fluctuating Gas Prices: A Regional Overview

Gas prices in Arizona have remained relatively stable, with the average price per gallon at $3.78. Prices in Phoenix are 32.5 cents lower than a month ago and 89.8 cents lower than a year ago. Gas prices tend to spike during the Fourth of July holiday weekend but taper off in the following weeks. Producers curtail production to raise oil prices, which may keep prices at the pump around $3.50 this summer. Lower gas prices have provided relief from last year's record inflation. The most significant increases in average gas prices over the past week were seen in South Carolina, Utah, and Tennessee.
