NFL expands international game slate and ends home-game protections
The NFL approved boosting the cap on league-run international games to as many as 10 per season (up from eight), potentially starting in 2027, and voted to drop the rule that let teams protect two home games from international play. The move broadens the league’s global footprint but could complicate scheduling; Detroit’s Munich game against the Patriots and its previously protected home games illustrate the shift away from home-game protections.
