Former US President Donald Trump's lawyers have filed a motion to disqualify New York state judge Juan Merchan from overseeing the criminal case against him related to hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels. The motion argues that Merchan has a conflict of interest due to his daughter's work for a consulting firm that does work for Democrats and that he has a preconceived bias against Trump. Trump's lawyers also asked the judge to explain $35 in political contributions in 2020. Merchan donated $35 to the Democratic group ActBlue, with the money earmarked for the Biden campaign and two progressive groups.
Disney responded to the motion filed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District to disqualify Judge Mark E. Walker in a legal dispute with Disney. Disney's lawyers argued that Walker's remarks did not meet the high standards for judges to be disqualified and that disqualification is allowed only if the prior comments expose an incapacity on the judge's part to consider the new case on its own merits. Earlier this week, Walker issued an order declaring that he would take no further action until he ruled on the motion for disqualification.
