
Leclerc tops Melbourne practice as Ferrari beat Hamilton in opening session
Charles Leclerc led Ferrari to the fastest time in opening Melbourne practice, beating teammate Lewis Hamilton by 0.469 seconds as Max Verstappen was third; rookie Isack Hadjar and Arvid Lindblad followed in fourth and fifth. Alonso did not run due to a Honda power-unit problem and Lance Stroll could only manage three laps because of an engine fault. Mercedes struggled with understeer and energy deployment while Lando Norris finished 19th. Adrian Newey cited ongoing battery and vibration issues with the Honda power unit, amid the presence of Cadillac and Audi as new entrants in the evolving F1 era.
