
Sony-TSMC Bet Billions on Next-Gen Smartphone Image Sensors
Sony and TSMC are forming a $6.3 billion joint venture to mass-produce next-generation CMOS image sensors in southwestern Japan by 2029, with Sony owning 60% and TSMC 40%. The collaboration aims to supply high-performance sensors for Apple’s iPhone and to strengthen Sony’s leadership in image-sensor tech, including LOFIC developments, following prior announcements of the venture.
