Finland’s Underground Nuclear Vault Targets Centuries of Containment

Finland is preparing to activate Onkalo, a 430‑meter‑deep underground repository carved into ancient bedrock to store about 6,500 tonnes of spent nuclear fuel. Projected to operate into the 2120s and then be sealed, it reflects a landmark approach to permanent domestic disposal—unmatched globally so far. While engineered to keep waste isolated for millennia, uncertainties remain, notably copper canister corrosion and how future generations will understand the hazard, prompting ideas like durable warnings through nuclear semiotics.

Unveiling the Hidden Dangers of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists

GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as semaglutide and liraglutide, have been approved for weight regulation but have been associated with rare, severe side effects. These include a higher risk of pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, and gastroparesis. Anesthetic complications have also been reported, possibly due to slowed gastric emptying caused by the drugs. Additionally, there have been case reports of depression and suicidal ideation, prompting investigations into the potential risk of increased suicidality. Long-term safety and the possibility of side effects that may only become apparent over time are still unknown. Guidelines for the safe and effective use of these medications are currently being developed.

"Long-term Benefits of Tolebrutinib in MS Treatment Revealed at ECTRIMS 2023"

Treatment with tolebrutinib for up to nearly three years in a Phase 2b trial extension showed low relapse rates, stable disability, and few new brain lesions among people with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). Tolebrutinib, an investigational therapy, targets smoldering neuroinflammation, a type of chronic inflammation associated with MS progression. The long-term safety profile of tolebrutinib remained consistent, and the therapy was well-tolerated. Ongoing Phase 3 trials are evaluating the 60 mg dose of tolebrutinib, with results eagerly anticipated to potentially change the standard of care for MS.
