Fourth of July chaos in North Charleston ends with machine-gun charges
A city-permitted Fourth of July block party in North Charleston’s Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood erupted in gunfire, leading to the recovery of a machine gun and a makeshift spear. Six people—four juveniles and two adults—were charged. The juveniles face counts including third-degree assault by mob, assault on a police officer while resisting arrest, resisting arrest, and possession of a machine gun. 19-year-old Giovanni Mekhi Sincere Campbell is charged with possession of a machine gun, and 18-year-old Sa’Myā Adriana Collette Weaver with breach of peace and assault on a police officer while resisting arrest. The identities of the juveniles were not released, and investigators say more arrests could follow; no civilians reported injuries, and multiple agencies assisted in the response.
