India's 50-Foot Fossil Serpent Vasuki indicus Rewrites Giant-Snake History
Researchers describe Vasuki indicus, a Middle Eocene giant snake from Gujarat, India, estimated at about 11–15 meters (36–49 feet) long, making it one of the largest snakes known and approaching Titanoboa in size. The 27 preserved vertebrae suggest a thick, slow-moving ambush predator, and the find places the madtsoiid family as a widespread ancient lineage that likely originated in India before dispersing to Europe and Africa.
