James Webb Telescope Discovers Water and Surprises on Rare Comet
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has discovered a water-rich comet in the inner solar system, which may help to solve the mystery of how Earth got its water. The comet, named Comet Read, is a main belt comet, residing inside the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The discovery confirms that water ice from the early solar system can be preserved much closer to the sun than previously thought. The next step would be to send a probe to the asteroid belt in hopes of collecting physical samples from Comet Read and other main belt comets like it.
