US weighs targeted options against Iran's Hormuz defenses if ceasefire falters
US defense officials are developing plans to strike Iran’s capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz if the current ceasefire with Iran collapses, including potential actions against small fast-attack boats, minelaying vessels and other asymmetric assets in the Strait, southern Gulf and Gulf of Oman; discussions also include possible strikes on energy facilities and other strategic targets to compel negotiations. While these plans aim to reopen the strait, security experts warn such actions may not immediately restore shipping, and officials stress that all options remain on the table in the pursuit of a diplomatic resolution.
