Plante Captures Hobey Baker as NCAA's Top Men’s Hockey Player
Max Plante, a Detroit Red Wings prospect and Minnesota Duluth sophomore, won the 2026 Hobey Baker Memorial Award as NCAA men's hockey's top player, finishing ahead of finalists Eric Pohlkamp and T.J. Hughes. He led UMD with 25 goals and 52 points, earned the NCHC Forward of the Year and All-NCHC First Team honors, and plans to return to Duluth for another season to play with his brothers before turning pro. Duluth now has seven Hobey Baker winners, the most of any school.
