McNulty's Solo Effort Ends 33-Year US Drought in Montreal
Brandon McNulty became the first American to win the men's UCI road world title in 33 years, finishing 13 seconds clear of the chasing pack in Montréal. The 28-year-old, a domestique for Tadej Pogačar, launched a solo attack with 32.4km remaining, building a lead of over a minute before holding off a final surge by Tom Pidcock. Australian Michael Matthews took silver, and Mathieu van der Poel finished third. The victory marked a historic breakthrough for US cycling, ending a drought that began with Lance Armstrong's win in 1993.
