Black Hole in NGC 1275 Shows 300-Day Lag Between Feeding Flare and Radio Jets
Astronomers using NASA’s Swift Observatory have detected a 300-day delay between an X-ray flare and radio jet activity in the supermassive black hole at the center of galaxy NGC 1275. This lag provides preliminary evidence for 'disk-jet coupling,' linking the rate of matter accretion to the launch of plasma jets. The study also estimates the black hole’s mass to be between 100 million and 1 billion solar masses.
