Brewers Break Cubs’ Late Surge in 8-6 Win

Milwaukee pulled away to an 8-6 win over Chicago after the Cubs’ late charge fell short; Chicago trailed 8-1 entering the ninth and plated five runs, but BJ Murray struck out with the tying run on deck. Cubs starter Kevin Gausman was uneven (4.0 IP, 8 hits, 6 earned runs) as Logan Henderson held the Cubs in check, and a ninth-inning misplay by Pedro Ramirez after a Palencia out allowed Brice Turang to score on William Contreras’ single, underscoring Chicago’s ongoing bullpen struggles.

Phillies stun Angels with Sosa’s ninth-inning slam after Meckler’s Robbery

The Angels blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning as Wade Meckler robbed Bryson Stott of a potential go-ahead homer, but a bases-loaded walk and a 404-foot go-ahead grand slam by Edmundo Sosa gave Philadelphia a 5-3 win. The loss ties the MLB record for most ninth-inning leads blown (11) going back to 1900, a mark also shared by the 2012 Brewers and 1978 Mets. The Phillies, in the wild-card race, gained ground, while the Angels’ late-game collapse continued their troubling pattern this season.

Brutal Ninth-Inning Blunder Lifts Cardinals Over Reds

With Cincinnati leading 5-4 and two outs in the ninth, Dane Myers couldn’t glove a routine fly off J.J. Wetherholt, the ball deflecting for an error that allowed two runs to score and gave St. Louis the lead; the Cardinals added four more in the top of the inning, Reds answered with four in the bottom, and Matt McLain’s bases-loaded line drive to Jordan Walker ended it at 10-9. Myers took responsibility, citing sun and a prior discussion with Friedl about the gap, while Reds manager Terry Francona called it a simple misplay as Cincinnati fell to 61-67 and seven games out of the NL wild-card with about a month left.

Skenes can't snap winless streak as Pirates fall 2-1 in controversial finish at Coors Field

Paul Skenes pitched six innings of two-run ball but took the loss as the Pirates dropped a 2-1 decision to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, their seventh straight defeat in Skenes’ starts. The Pirates loaded the bases with none out in the ninth but failed to score. A controversial call—Billy Cook, running for Reynolds, was ruled to have interfered with the third baseman—ruled out the potential tying run, drawing anger from Pirates manager Don Kelly. Pittsburgh remains under .500 and will try to avoid a sweep in the series finale.

Miller miscue fuels Dodgers' ninth-inning walk-off to even series with Padres

The Dodgers rallied from a 4-2 deficit and stunned the Padres with a 5-4 walk-off in the bottom of the ninth. Earlier, San Diego had built the lead with Manny Machado and Andújar homers as Ohtani and Freeman provided early offense for the Dodgers.
